Garland: Dallas, Collin and Rockwall are distinct jurisdictions

The Texas Municipal League’s city directory identifies Garland in Dallas, Collin and Rockwall counties. A directory page that treats Garland as exclusively Dallas County can send a family to the wrong records office. Read the county on the judgment before opening a case search. Dallas County remains a common starting point, but city geography alone cannot determine where a particular conviction was entered.

Dallas County’s District Clerk provides a felony-records inquiry contact. Collin County maintains its own judicial-search tools and District Clerk. For a judgment naming Rockwall County, locate that county’s court and clerk through the Texas Judicial Directory instead of asking either neighboring county for the file. This distinction is useful even when the defendant, family and provider all use a Garland address: those addresses do not transfer a court’s records across county lines.

Keep arrest information, municipal citations and district-court conviction papers clearly identified. A city incident can produce records held by several agencies, while the final judgment identifies the court file to assemble for a post-conviction review. Before comparing providers, prepare the county, court number, cause number and a list of documents already obtained. A Garland service-area listing should not be read as proof of a local office, courthouse affiliation or attorney status.
